Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors are responsible for providing case management services to clients who are referred by the Department of Labor and Industries, various contracted and/or self-insured employers and their representatives, or clients who self-refer for help in developing job seeking skills to aid in their transition back to work.  A variety of activities are performed and include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conducting meetings with clients.
  • Meeting with employers to establish return to work options, with or without accommodations, and to collect job specific data for the preparation of job analyses.
  • Meeting with medical providers to discuss client’s specific restrictions and ability to work.
  • Conducting labor market research on employability trends and outlook.
  • Determining eligibility for further services and the possible need for vocational retraining.
  • Researching, coordinating and monitoring retraining plans.
  • Coaching clients on job seeking skills including the preparation of resumes and making referrals for other possible services. 


Per the requirement of the Department of Labor and Industries there is a two-year internship with the guidance and under the supervision of a senior counselor.  Upon completion of the required internship hours persons sit for and complete a national certification exam. 

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Valid Washington State driver’s license
Insurable driving record
Excellent writing skills
Proficient computer skills including MS Office and the ability to learn new programs
